Objectives:

The aim of this course is to support PhD students in writing and publishing a scientific article about their research in the TIL- and BETA domain.

Course description:

Morning session (Jafar Rezaei)

  • how to write a good article, in terms of structure, message, positioning, added value, etc.
  • includes a hands-on writing exercise.

 

Afternoon session (Karst Geurs)

  • How to select the right journal for a journal paper?
  • Measuring journal quality: impact factors and subjective quality aspects:

 

How to survive the review process? Dos and don’ts, communicating with journal editors

Assignment:

A written extended abstract of a to be published article (800-1000 words), rooted in the PhD research & a written and detailed argumentation (400-500 words) underlying the selection of an academic journal for your article mentioned in the first bullet, including the use of a journal finder. To be submitted by 13 June 2024 – info@rstrail.nl.

Program:

The course consists of a lecture about writing and publishing a research article, and an assignment in which the PhD student is requested to write an extended abstract (or rewrite an existing extended abstract) on (part of) his/her research and motivate his/her choice for a specific journal. The abstract and motivation for choosing a specific journal will be reviewed.
